Hi, I’m Brenda Villa — an Emmy-nominated journalist with a passion for storytelling that drives change and amplifies underrepresented voices.

Most recently, I worked as an on-air reporter at KRGV in South Texas, where I covered everything from breaking news and immigration to education and community features. I spent two years as a morning reporter, working alongside photographers to tell creative stories in both English and Spanish — often in places you wouldn’t expect. During my time there, I immersed myself in the Rio Grande Valley, building deep connections with the community and gaining a firsthand understanding of life in a border town. I came to truly appreciate its people, culture, and resilience.

Before stepping in front of the camera, I started my career behind the scenes. I worked as an assignment editor at KNBC in Los Angeles, where I developed strong research and content-gathering skills and learned how a newsroom works from the inside out. I also worked with the NBCLA Investigative Team, going undercover, conducting interviews, and digging deep into consumer stories and more.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and a certificate in Spanish for Hispanic Media from California State University, Fullerton. While there, I served as Vice President of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) Cal State Fullerton chapter, and I remain an active member of the organization today.

I’m currently back in California and looking for my next opportunity. I’m open to relocating and eager to bring my experience, curiosity, and creativity to a new team.
